Ear protection helps to protect a user’s hearing from damage caused by loud or noisy environments. In the workplace when exposed to noise over a certain level it is a legal requirement to be provided with and wear hearing protection. The Control of Noise at Work Regulations in 2006 regulations ensure hearing protection must be available for workplaces with persistent noise at 80 decibels (dB), and compulsory at 85 dB or higher to prevent hearing loss and/or permanent ringing or buzzing in the ears (tinnitus).
